Joe, Leeza, Nina, Tim and I... all having a ball making fun of the outfits, the people and maybe enjoying the show just a little. The best moment of the night, "GOLD FINGAH!!!" If you don't know what I am talking about, here's the deets.
The Oscars paid homage to the James Bond series. This year marks the 50th anniversary of busty Bond girls, his signature Walther PPK, and of course martinis shaken... not stirred. Part of the tribute included performances from the singers who have sung some of the most memorable themes for the series. First up... and a shock to us all who were not really paying attention... Shirley Bassey and her bold rendition of Goldfinger.
The 76 year olds performance was magnificent (see above). However us being the smart asses of the newsroom that we are, made it into a laughable event. All of us started our own rip-roaring renditions, screaming out "GOOOOOOLLLLLD FINNNNGAH" throughout the newsroom. Though it was all in good fun, I honestly believe there is a special Hell reserved for all of us in the newsroom. Just sayin'...
In a way for me to help share my happiness with the people I love at work, I was nice and brought one of my favorite family cakes in to work to share with my friends. Yesterday, I had a hankering for my mom's peach upside down cake. I got the recipe from her and tried my hand out it... NAILED IT!! The photos I posted to Facebook and Instagram also proving positive as many people found it very appealing.
One of those people was my buddy Jeremy from work. He is honestly one of the sweetest guys you will ever meet. He also gives great hugs. :) It was Jeremy who gave me the idea to bring in most of the cake to share with my Fox Family. Not like I could eat the whole thing on my own anyway. I saved Jeremy one of the best cake bits (an ooey gooey corner piece) and brought tons more for everyone else. Let me tell you, it was a huge hit, especially with everyone hanging out and watching the Oscars. The warm peachy pieces on a cold Sunday night brought happiness to those of us stuck at tiny cubicles. It was nice to help bring joy to those who constantly make me smile.
Want to try the cake yourself? Here's the recipe straight from Momma!!
Peach Upside Down Cake
Ingredients:
- 1 large can of sliced peaches (including juice)
- 1 stick of butter
- 1/3 bag of brown sugar (light or dark)
- box of yellow cake mix and the ingredients needed to make it
Directions:
- Put first 3 ingredients in a sauce pan and bring to a boil.
- While waiting for that to boil, mix up yellow cake mix.
- Once ingredients in sauce pan aer boiling, put peaches in bottom of cake pan. You will have some juice let over. Save it for after the cake is done cooking.
- Add the cake batter over the peaches in the cake pan.
- Bake in oven per box instructions.
- When done, remove from oven and let it sit for a few minutes.
- Take a tray and put over the cake pan and flip it upside down. You have to hold it tight so it won't fall all over you. Remove the cake pan.
- Pour left over juice from sauce pan over cake.
- This is the most important instruction to follow... EAT AND ENJOY!!
