The new pope has been chosen! Crazy to think something religious would make my something good list. Eh?!
It's not that I was following this for my own good or because I cared, but you have to admit, it is truly a fascinating ordeal. Also working in news makes it more entertaining.
Upon coming in to work today, the whole newsroom was abuzz... waiting to see who would step out on to the balcony overlooking the thousands of people in St. Peter's Square. TV's all over the studio were tuned in to the live announcement. Everyone with their eyes pealed on those white curtains... waiting for the next pontiff to come out. Then when Pope Francis made his first appearance... all of us started shuffling about trying to figure out who he was, what he supported, what was he against, why would the College of Cardinals pick him?
It is a ton of fun in news when big events like this happen. There is an energy that fills the air that makes you feel proud to be in this field. You know things before they happen. You dig deeper into stories and hope what you report helps people have a better understanding of a situation. My job is amazing. I am very glad I picked news.
