Childhood

This past Friday I spent the day at Castle Island with my bestest Axel.  It was the first time either of us had been and it was an exceptionally beautiful day.  Axel had the great idea of flying kites as the winds were perfect.

It was during this time that I started thinking of things from when I was a kid.  Days spent playing outside on the farm.

First, I had to enjoy the sights and sounds of the landing planes.  For those of you who are not familiar with the area, Castle Island is right next to Logan International Airport.  Furthermore, when I was growing up, our home was also near an airport.  The sound to me is almost comforting.  Strange I know, but I still can't sleep in total silence because I am so use to the noises from those planes flying over and the trains across the way going by.

It was while I was laying in the grass looking up as they flew over that I remembered a funny "not-so-true" fact I always believed in growing up.  I always thought that the exhaust coming from those planes was what made the clouds.  And as I laid there watching them swirl and dissipate, I could only dream that my imaginative ideas were true.

Next thought came while Axel and I were flying our kites.  After years of learnin' in the school, science has taught me aerodynamics and the truth of how things fly.  However little kid me... yeah not so much.  I remember believeing that kites could only fly if you ran with them.  You had to throw them in the air and run like hell or they wouldn't stay up in the air.

My reasoning behind this any of this... hell if I know.  But this wonderful day of fun brought up a ton of memories, as well as created some new ones.

Can't wait for more fun in the sun and flashbacks to my ridiculous childhood.
